Customer Background:

Company:  Classified
Part to be Preheated: Bottles for chemical storage
Part Material: Steel
Part Dimensions: N/A
Part Weight: 4 lbs
Target Preheating Temperature:  400°F
Number of pieces to be heated at one time: 20
Required preheat  time frame: None specified

Project Background:

Rotating equipment planners at a manufacturer of chemicals and derivatives contacted us seeking an industrial process oven that could preheat a batch of steel bottles for storing chemicals.  The process involved placing the bottles into the preheat oven in order to bake out any impurities or moisture within the bottle before the chemical was placed inside.  The target temperature was 400F.  The clients requested that the oven be top-loading so the bottles could be loaded down into the oven.  Also, a top shelf was needed for the bottle lids.

Below are some other specifications requested by the client:

Box nameplate to include:
MFG. Info
Mass of empty box
Electrical Info
Max weight capacity of part
Max weight/Shelf capacity
Max rate of part + weight of oven

Other features:

Lifting lugs to be rated to lift oven containing part at max rated weight
Adjustable shelves
Locking latch on top for transporting to field
Relief scenario (oven shouldn’t contain pressure) (vent/etc.)
On/off timer
Temperature indicator
Provide the hook lifting arrangement

For this particular application we designed a custom industrial preheating oven from scratch and called it the K-TL30. This is a solid oven that rests on heavy-duty steel casters. This oven features a locking single-door lid that can be easily lifted by grabbing the secure steel handle. The lid was installed with cold-rolled steel butt hinges that were tack welded to ensure solid door usage for many years.

We fulfilled the special requests as we always strive to do with our customers. As for shelving, the equipment specialists wanted perforated steel shelves to allow heat to permeate the oven evenly and radiate to the top shelf where the lids were to be stored. We made the oven shelving adjustable, as requested. The K-TL30 preheat oven is insulated all around, including the lid to ensure containment of heat and rapid preheating. The K-TL30 preheating oven rests on tack welded steel casters to enable free movement of the oven around the workplace and to different workstations.

This custom oven is useful for a variety of purposes, not just for chemical bottles. The temperature range can be modified for any application. A programmable digital controller was installed for this oven so the temperature reading would remain very accurate and the temperature control could be adjusted for different applications.

Oven Construction

Exterior

The K-TL30 heat treating oven is constructed of carbon steel throughout. The oven exterior has a highly durable, powder-coat finish in blue that is resistant to scratching and corrosion. This a top-loading, floor-positioned preheating oven and is designed to be stored on a floor for ease of access to the parts being preheated. Perforated shelving was installed on this batch oven to evenly distribute the heat around the steel bottles. The lid hinges are tack-welded to ensure smooth operation for many years. The control panel which houses the digital PID is mounted on the side of the oven with heavy-duty rivets. A standard "ON/OFF" indicating light was also provided, which is bright enough to be seen from a distance. A variety of temperature control methods are available. The K-TL30 preheating oven rests on tack welded steel casters to enable free movement of the oven around the workplace and to different workstations.

There is also a hook-lifting arrangement at the to of the preheat oven with a load capacity of 500 lbs beyond oven weight.

Interior

The interior of the K-TL30 is unique and features a custom-designed adjustable shelving system. Various shelving styles are available which are suitable for almost any custom preheating application. The elements are installed in the the sides of the oven which allows the heat to radiate inwards and around the oven. The heating elements are housed in element guards to protect users from coming in contact to the elements. The interior of the K-TL30 preheating oven is painted with a reflective, galvanized paint and the interior welds are touched up with high-temperature aluminum paint.

All our preheating ovens are made in the USA and feature a 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty.  Parts are readily available.
